The casino of Enghien-les-Bains recorded a decrease in its turnover for the year 2014. There are many reasons for this decline, to name only the crisis which has also weakened the financial situation of all casinos in France in recent years.
The leading gaming establishment in France in terms of turnover, the only French casino with paid access has observed a further decline in activity that it intends to fill by continuing to innovate and by putting in place an effective marketing strategy to increase the number of its visitors.
For fiscal year 2014, the Enghien-les-Bains casino recorded a decrease in turnover of 4% compared to the previous fiscal year. The gross gaming revenue therefore amounts to 147.5 million euros, whereas in 2013, it was 154 million euros. The drop is more significant for the gaming tables. Indeed, roulette games and Black Jack tables recorded a drop in gross product of 5.2%.
The gross product of slot machines fell by 3.9%. The decline in purchasing power has led to a drop in attendance. The number of players present during the football nights of the World Cup has declined significantly. The closure of the Enghien SNCF station on the weekends of April and May and the week of the train and taxi strike in June 2014 also contributed to this poor result. The gaming complex, despite this decline, is doing quite well compared to other French casinos.
Before the crisis, the casino of Enghien-les-Bains, one of the leading gaming establishments in France, reached a record figure of 166 million euros. The crisis slowed down the growth and activities of the casino. In addition to this crisis, the ban on smoking came into force on January 1, 2008. The results of this year 2008 were catastrophic since the establishment recorded a significant drop in activity which reached 17 million euros. This 22% drop was a real blow to the casino, which has always recorded a very encouraging result since the installation of slot machines in 2002.
Actions to reverse the trend
To counter the effects of the crisis, the casino in Enghien-les-Bains continues to innovate . The big novelty in the establishment’s table games room is the “Sic Bo” dice game. The latter is one of the favorite games of Asian gamers. The casino therefore hopes to spoil them with this new facility. The gaming complex also wants to bet on electronic roulette with automatic launcher to increase its turnover. The slot machine park also hosted 3D one-armed bandits. This park currently has 500 slot machines.
It is also necessary to underline the efforts undertaken in terms of marketing. Attractive offers have been made to increase the number of visitors. The policy has paid off since in 2014, the establishment recorded 660,000 visitors, an increase of 2.5%.
